Breakdowns could be costing you a considerable sum

ARE you losing £3.5k per annum on your fleet?

That is the opinion of the RAC following a recent analysis of vehicle breakdowns. SMEs that responded said they had to manage for an average of nearly three working weeks with vehicles being off the road. At a daily loss of income of £248 per working day this quickly adds up to the £3.5k mentioned above.

Furthermore, dealing with these breakdowns eats up management time at an astonishing rate, over 40 per cent of firms’ managers spent more than 75 hours per annum dealing with problem vehicles.

Many of the faults are very straightforward to deal with and typically involve flat tyres, faulty batteries, electrical faults and low oil levels. All of which could be managed with a simple fleet management policy requiring drivers of company vehicles to regularly check the basic elements on their vehicles, if not weekly then certainly on a monthly basis. The responses also confirmed that any kind of early warning of a problem would be beneficial including the use of telematics or tracking systems in company vehicles.

Whilst recognising that the RAC is trying to sell their technological solutions they do make a good point. Any company operating cars and vans should have in place a Company Vehicle Policy to help them manage and prevent these situations.

Alternatively a company could buy the maintenance package with their vehicle funding and take advantage of the leasing industry’s buying power. The leasing industry would much prefer their cars to be well maintained and are offering various incentives to customers to encourage them to take up the maintenance offer.

At Alpha Contracts we currently have access to some BMW 5 series with “free“ maintenance. As we know there’s no such thing as a free lunch, however your correspondent is supplying a client with a BMW 520d M Sport that will effectively cost nothing to service over the next two years!

To find out how this works and which models currently benefit from these offers speak to one of the sales team at Alpha Contracts who will have all the latest info to hand. For any other car or van related enquiry, speak to one of the team at Alpha Contracts Leasing Limited on 01604 756620.
