NORTHAMPTON’S digital transformation is continuing to gather pace with the first residents now connecting to the new state-of-the-art full fibre network.
As homes and businesses benefit from gigabit-speed broadband, the town is moving away from the century-old copper network and reaping the benefits that this game-changing technology brings.
Northampton is among the first locations in the UK to benefit from CityFibre’s £40m investment in a future-proof full fibre network, bringing unrivalled connectivity to homes, business and public premises. Research indicates that this critical infrastructure will add a further £160m to the Northampton economy, through increased productivity, access to services and flexible working.
CityFibre is working closely with Northampton Borough Council and Northamptonshire County Council, with the completion of this revolutionary network due by 2022. As part of the team’s work to promote the town’s prospering digital community, CityFibre have supported a number of local initiatives, including the Celebrate Northampton ‘Gigaboot’, a Digital Northampton Careers in Digital programme to attract young people into the industry and sponsoring the upcoming Merged Futures technology showcase.
CityFibre has also recently opened its Northampton office and is working with local businesses, such as Hellerman Tyton, which is manufacturing key connector components for CityFibre’s network infrastructure across the UK.

As Northampton becomes the latest location to join the gigabit revolution, CityFibre is well on its way to achieving its target of bringing full fibre to up to eight million homes.

As key workers, CityFibre has been asked by the UK Government to continue to expand the nation’s digital capacity. All contractors are being urged to follow the social distancing protocols as outlined by Public Health England to ensure build partners’ safety.
