AS a leading care provider, Home Instead East Northants prides itself on the high level of service its clients receive.

In turn, the Wellingborough-based company ensures its own employees and working practices are cared for through its membership of the United Kingdom Home Care Association (UKHCA).

Home Instead East Northants provides caregivers to mainly elderly, but some younger, disabled people, allowing them to stay in their own homes, living independently, for longer than might otherwise be the case.

The team can provide anything from personal care such as help with dressing and bathing, through to help with shopping, housekeeping, meal preparation or simply to sit and have a chat.

At a time when people are, in general, living longer the home care business is growing rapidly, and the importance of ensuring standards within the industry cannot be overestimated.

UKHCA is an organisation that represents home care providers, lobbying government over care provision issues and providing a valuable source of advice and guidance to those in the business.

Mark Darnell, owner of Home Instead East Northants, said: “For the sake of our clients, we are regulated by the Care Quality Commission and have to meet their stringent guidelines for the quality of service we offer.

“On the other side, we choose to be members of UKHCA because we feel it is an important and valuable resource in terms of safeguarding the interests of those in the care sector. Issues such as the introduction of the National Living Wage and what that means for employers, as well as massive cuts to social services budgets that, in turn, impact on private care providers, are the kind of things where UKHCA provides representation for companies like ours, through regional and national government, to help protect our interests.

“We are part of a large franchise network and so we always have somewhere to turn if we need advice on a certain issue, but even given that, we still turn to UKHCA regularly to see what they are saying about issues that matter in the home care sector.”
