Celebrating our heritage

HISTORY and culture are an important part of local life and Jeyes of Earls Barton recently threw open its doors to showcase the riches that can be found in the community.

The event, in September, was part of Heritage Open Days, a national festival of history and culture, bringing together over 2,000 organisations, 5,000 events and 40,000 volunteers.

Jeyes staged a day of events, Heritage at Jeyes, that included a talk by Georgina Jeyes on the story of the two Northamptonshire brothers Philadelphus and John Jeyes and the invention of Jeyes Fluid; and Boss In Boots, a talk by Steve Pateman on the true story behind Kinky Boots and how the story went from Earls Barton to a film and on to the West End and Broadway.

Heritage at Jeyes was officially opened by Jane Baile, the Chairman of Northamptonshire Heritage Forum. Included in the wider Northamptonshire event was a free ride on a classic bus that linked various heritage sites, including Jeyes of Earls Barton.
