College takes centre stage at show

YOUNG people looking for the chance to earn while they learn picked up tips from employers and found out more about apprenticeships available with Northampton College.

A total of 1,136 students successfully completed an apprenticeship with Northampton College in 2015-16 and employers such as Opus Energy and Novacroft were on hand at the National Apprenticeship Show in Milton Keynes last month to explain more about how their apprentices are working their way up the career ladder.

Northampton College is a headline sponsor of the show and will be giving all those attending the opportunity to discover the benefits of signing up for an apprenticeship, combining traditional classroom-style learning with on-the-job workplace training.

James Whybrow, assistant principal of Northampton College, said: “We worked with more than 800 businesses last year delivering apprenticeships and industry-training in the workplace.

“There has been a 49 per cent growth in apprenticeships at Northampton College over the two years between 2013-14 and 2015-16, with apprenticeship provision growing by 27 per cent during the last year. Of 236 Apprenticeship starts this academic year, we have retained 100 per cent.

“We work with businesses across a range of sectors to make sure the training and qualifications we deliver meets their needs and fulfils demand for specific skills. We are committed to making a contribution to improving skills and boosting local economic growth and productivity.”

The National Apprenticeship Show, held at Arena MK, saw thousands of schoolchildren coming along to find out more about potential career paths.

Northampton College showcased the range of apprenticeships available across its three sites in Booth Lane, Lower Mounts and Daventry.
