Community team wins support

NENE Valley Community Action has received £32,400 from the Heritage Lottery Fund for an exciting project, 1918-2018 Then and Now, in Rushden.

Made possible by money raised by National Lottery players, the project will, over the course of a year, enable local people to volunteer and participate in four intergenerational groups to explore and research the changes in 100 years across identified themes – clothing, food and cookery, toys and schooling.

A family history researcher will trace the families of those killed in the last year of World War One and identify any families that may still be in the area who may like to be involved. The project will end with participants taking part in a commemorative parade in November 2018, followed by an indoor street party where exhibition items will be on display.

Nene Valley Community Action is a local charity working with both young and older people across East Northants and Wellingborough by providing intergenerational themed activities, a volunteer befriender project and support for family Carers.

Commenting on the award, Rosemary Hadaway, CEO NVCA said: “We are thrilled to have received support thanks to National Lottery players and are confident that local people will get involved in this project exploring local life over the last 100 years. If you would like to get involved please contact NVCA on 01933 396382.”
