Company’s major award win

IN March, Northamptonshire company WPS (Waste Plan Solutions) Ltd won the coveted Compliance Consulting Team of the Year award at the International Women in Compliance 2018 Awards. This is a good follow-up to Managing Director Lara Ayris winning the Outstanding Woman in Construction Award in 2012.

The company qualified for this award due to having a female Managing Director, and the shortlist included 3C Compliance from Spain, EuroCompliance from France and EY from the USA. In fact, only three of the 10 finalists were from the UK.

WPS are Specialist Compliance Consultants, founded in 2009 by Lara, initially to concentrate on construction waste management (in particular site waste management plans), but, due to industry changes and client demand, the services now offered by the company are extremely diverse. The team still works primarily in the construction sector, but now assists clients (architects, planners, contractors and project managers) all the way through the construction phases of a building project.

During the pre-construction phase they assist with obtaining planning permission and then with the satisfaction of specific planning conditions, producing such things as site waste audit reports, construction management plans, air quality management plans, logistics and transport plans and noise, dust and vibration plans.

Whilst the construction phase of a building is in progress, WPS focuses on the environmental and sustainability aspects, including managing and monitoring site practices and impacts to ensure the environment is ‘respected’ and the company’s own online software tool (www.siteplan.online) even measures the carbon footprint of a site as part of its functionality.

Once a building has been constructed WPS then helps with the ‘handover’ documentation, asset register completion and the organisation of specialist training for facilities mangers and maintenance personnel, as well as the ‘users’ of the building.

If this isn’t enough the company develops and delivers specific training courses focusing on waste management and the regulations, as well as environmental best practices, etc.

Environmental permitting was added to the company’s list of services last year and it fits extremely well because Lara has been lecturing in the subject part time for the last four years.

Over the years, WPS has worked with an increasing number of household names, such as Sir Robert McAlpine, Blenheim Palace, ISG, Interserve and Morgan Sindall, but they are especially pleased recently to have been involved with several Tottenham Hotspur Football Club developments, including their new stadium.
