It is 20 years since Neil Arrowsmith took the decision to set up his own garage – Higham Tyre & Exhaust Centre in Midland Road, Higham Ferrers – selling part-worn and new tyres.
It was an opportunity for Neil to put to good use his wealth of knowledge and experience gained from working for main dealers and multinational fast fits. Soon, the appointment of an employee was a chance for the business to expand and a MOT bay was installed, and the name was changed to Higham Tyre & MOT Centre.
A growing number of customers, including a high percentage of women, started to use the garage which offered MOTs along with servicing and general repairs.
“We are very proud of our reputation and many of our customers have used us from those early days. Customers put their trust in us and can feel confident that we only replace parts when it is needed and offer no-obligation quotes,” said Neil.
This honest, helpful and friendly service has helped the garage to thrive and for Neil to be able to make the most of opportunities.
Neil said: “We rapidly outgrew Midland Road and by a chance conversation with my very good friends Steve and Maureen Horsley they offered me part of their premises in Cemetery Lane, Higham Ferrers.
“We were very lucky as the premises we occupied were due for redevelopment. This did not happen for two years, so we ran two workshops and expanded the workforce. During this time, we installed a MOT bay on the Cemetery Lane site so when the doors finally closed in Midland Road, we were able to continue with the MOTs without any loss of business.
“The Cemetery Lane site has expanded since we took it over to incorporate a dedicated tyre bay, MOT bay, servicing and repair bays and a much larger customer parking area.
“We have only been able to achieve this by offering the best service and value at all times and we are very grateful for the support of all our loyal customers without whom this journey would not have been possible.”

“Our qualified technicians are able to provide a comprehensive check to ensure the vehicle is fit for the road. If the car fails, the test and repairs are required to ensure it is fit for the road then these can be undertaken. A free MoT retest is available within ten working days.”
Free estimates are another service appreciated by customers.
“Vehicle owners might think there is something wrong with their exhaust or a clutch needs fixing but are concerned about the costs involved,” said Neil.
