TWENTY five years ago, Northampton-based Ambivent Group was established by its four director shareholders, Steve Dudson, Sonia Wootton, Neville Mackman and Glenn Nightingale.

Initially, this new company offered an overspill design and draughting service to heating and ventilation contractors. Then in 1993, a sister company was set up to handle ventilation design and build projects primarily for end-user clients via Yellow Pages advertising etc. The company also tentatively started to offer this service to established heating contractors.

By the late nineties, Ambivent decided to add heating, air-conditioning and plumbing to its portfolio, and target builders and developers for what is termed mechanical services on commercial and industrial new buildings or refurbishments.

In 2004, the group in its present form was complete, with Ambivent Developments Limited becoming the parent company with sole ownership of Ambivent Limited & Ambivent Facilities Management Limited.

Today, Ambivent is one of the leading companies in the mechanical building service sector, providing high-quality engineering design, installation and maintenance services for builders and businesses alike, aiming to provide energy efficient and cost-effective solutions in a constantly changing environment.

As well as design and installation, Ambivent recognises the importance of maintenance to keep systems energy and cost effective and therefore provide regular maintenance as well as 24/7 emergency service  technicians.

The buying department aims to offer best value in the supply marketplace while building key relationships with suppliers through the Ambivent Supply Chain. This includes carefully selected suppliers with whom partnership agreements can be made to benefit both supplier and installer by achieving a closer working relationship.

The company has a proven track record of working on schools, offices, leisure facilities and other sectors to deliver renewable energy systems in both new-build environments and retrofitting into existing developments. The technologies in which Ambivent has to be fully conversant include air and ground source heat pumps, biomass heating systems, biodiesel heating systems, solar thermal systems, rainwater harvesting and combined heating and power.

Ambivent is 100 per cent committed to quality and service enhanced by its ISO 9001 UKAS accreditation, first awarded by the NQA in 2005.

Despite the recent recession, with controlled growth, Ambivent has increased its personnel to more than 50 and its turnover to exceed £12 million.

Managing Director Steve Dudson, said: “We couldn’t have got to this point through two recessions without dedicated staff, loyal clients and a professional supply chain – so a big thank you to each and every one. The most important ingredient to our longevity is our past and present staff. Ambivent is nothing without them.”

Whilst Ambivent is a stronger company now than ever before, the directors are determined never to become complacent and continue to exceed expectations.
