Ashley Riley Communications, who recently won Campaign of the Year at the British Chamber of Commerce Awards in London, made the comment at their first ‘making social media work for your business’ workshop of 2015.

“One of the key pieces of advice we give business when it comes to communicating is to always think what are people waking up and thinking about.” said Managing Director Ashley Riley at the sold out workshop held in Wellingborough. “There is a very good chance they are not thinking of your business or your service. They are thinking about what lots of other people are and that’s what is called a trend.

“Therefore, any firm that wants to engage with their customer’s needs to ‘hug’ that trend and make the most of it,” Ashley Riley continued. “It can be as simple as recognising we all obsess about the likelihood of snow in winter or that Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Link your business in some small way to those sort of ‘trends’ and you are much more likely engage your customers.”

Ashley Riley Communications has been working with their clients using one of the most sought after Christmas gifts from 2014 – the selfie stick. The relatively cheap piece of kit enables smart phone users to take a selfie from in the air and manufacturers can’t make them quick enough.

“The selfie stick is a bit of fun but again will resonate with what people are doing in their everyday lives,” said Ashley, pictured here via a selfie stick with Laura Illingworth, a third year student from Sheffield University on work experience with Ashley Riley Communications.

The next workshop is called ‘Getting your message to the right people, at the right place at the right time’ and will be held on Wednesday 11 March at The Graduate Recruitment in Northampton Town Centre. Visit www.ashleyrileycommunications.co.uk for more information.
