Finding time in a timeless society

IN our society, we meet and work with people whose lives are full of people with tension, restlessness, stress and are short of time.

With the need to hit deadlines, targets and earn enough money to pay ever growing bills, people are pushing themselves to the limit.

Mark Darnell, owner of Home Instead in East Northants, which provides at home care to the elderly living in their own homes, has a few good tips to help people unwind, distress, and find time to relax.

Mark says: “At Home Instead, we always make sure our staff and caregivers don’t work too many hours as we need to ensure they can carry out their care work to the best of their ability.”

Mark also suggests that people try not to watch TV or look at a tablet or computer for an hour before bedtime as these activities can suppress melatonin levels and affect subsequent sleep. Using that time to read a good book or do another quiet activity will help lower blood pressure and calm the nerves.

Another tip is to celebrate successes. Take time in your hectic schedule to break away from work and rejoice in what you’ve accomplished. It doesn’t have to be a big celebration, it is just as important to revere the small successes in life.

Mark added: “We know that there are a lot of stressed out people in today’s society, but people must learn to take time regularly to relax, unwind and rest.”
