TRADITIONAL English food is the popular choice of many, but to mark the country’s most patriotic day, The Hopping Hare in Northampton has come up with a selection of quality themed dishes of which St George would be proud.

From Easter Monday, April 21 through to April 26, the Duston pub and restaurant will be offering a celebration of old English dishes with a Hopping Hare twist.

TRADITIONAL English food is the popular choice of many, but to mark the country’s most patriotic day, The Hopping Hare in Northampton has come up with a selection of quality themed dishes of which St George would be proud.

From Easter Monday, April 21 through to April 26, the Duston pub and restaurant will be offering a celebration of old English dishes with a Hopping Hare twist. Diners can choose two courses for £16.50 or three at £19.50.

Starters include a gastronomic take on a picnic favourite – cod and smoked haddock Scotch egg with chunky tartare sauce and soft herb and English lettuce salad; beef brisket corned beef with piccalilli, toast and horseradish salad cream and root vegetable Mulligatawny soup – a soup of Anglo-Indian origin dating back to the 1700s – and served with soured cream and mango chutney and coriander and coconut naan.

For the main course, there’s crayfish, hake and trout Stargazy pie with Hopping Hare baked beans and Cornish Yarg cheese; braised oxtail and pork shoulder faggots, with home-made celeriac and potato Smash, spring greens with smoked bacon and roasted onion gravy; and stew and dumplings – a wild mushroom, rosemary and red wine stew with grain mustard dumplings, pease pudding and roast potatoes.

Desserts include Manchester Pudding, Sussex Pond Pudding and Eccles Cakes.

The St George’s Day menu sees the start of this season’s event menus at The Hopping Hare and will be followed with a Spring Bank Holiday weekend menu from Friday, 23 May to Monday, 26 May and a Father’s Day special menu on June 15.

As always, the Hopping Hare Sunday Lunch menu is available every week with a choice of three roasts as well as chef’s specials.
