A NATIONAL manufacturing company is working with its local council on major new investment plans to expand its operations in the Daventry area.

A partnership between Hambleside Danelaw and Daventry District Council (DDC) will see the construction of a new 30,000 sq ft facility next to the firm’s flagship headquarters in Long March, Daventry.

The development will accommodate a new production line for glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) rooflights, signifying Hambleside Danelaw’s commitment to long-term investment in response to the recent economic upturn in the construction industry.

The deal also further cements a fruitful partnership between the business and DDC. Hambleside leases its Daventry headquarters from the council on a 15-year term after the local authority built the facility in 2007 as part of a project to regenerate the former Middlemarch industrial estate in the town.

DDC is further investing £3.178m of capital funding towards building Hambleside’s new facility, which will also be leased to the company on a long-term basis.

Hambleside Danelaw manufactures GRP flashings, GRP profiled rooflights, wall lights and cladding, the Dryseal GRP roofing system and a range of roof, cavity and underfloor ventilation products and ancillaries.

Chris Avery, Hambleside Danelaw’s Managing Director, said: “We have an excellent working relationship with Daventry District Council which has provided a major boost to our business in recent years.

“There has been an improvement in economic indicators in the construction sector in recent months, giving us real grounds for optimism and resulting in the decision to further invest in our manufacturing capacity in Daventry.

“Locating the rooflight element of GRP production to Daventry, close to our core markets, will allow us to reduce lead times, improve logistics and further improve customer service

“The district has really demonstrated that it wants modern manufacturing flourishing within its boundaries and we are proud to be based here.”

Hambleside Danelaw is not the only firm to benefit from a partnership with DDC: the council built a £4.5million manufacturing base for hydraulic tools specialist Hi-Force under a similar agreement in 2010. And when the firm outgrew that base, the council again worked with them to build a second £1.8 million large unit next door.

Ian Vincent, Chief Executive at Daventry District Council, said: “Forging strong partnerships with local businesses to help expand their operations is a key element of the District Council’s regeneration and employment strategy.

“By working with those firms on investment projects we have been able to promote economic growth and job creation in our district. Daventry District is a great place to invest and do business and we are keen to work with more companies in the future to help them maximise their potential.”
