A fleet of 240 trucks and 280 trailers supports the group’s services that include UK and Ireland transport, European transport, Air & Ocean, logistics, export packing, full loads, same day deliveries, supply chain management, and contract logistics.
Proving that the group is as at home on the farm as in the city, Knights of Old is in the fourth year of a successful partnership with Mole Valley Farmers, an agricultural supply business owned by 7,000 farmer shareholders.
The main focus for the partnership is the distribution of retail goods from the Mole Valley Farmers’ Central Distribution Centre (CDC) in Lincolnshire. The operation requires the distribution of centrally secured products to retail outlets across the UK.
With Knights of Old vehicles returning to their warehouse empty on the return leg, Mole Valley Farmers and Knights of Old considered backload opportunities countrywide.
With a team of dedicated and dual branded vehicles, Knights of Old’s main service commitment commences with an average of eight collections, equating to around 200 pallets daily.
Deliveries are made to Mole Valley Farmers’ south west retail outlets during two-day milk rounds. Once deliveries are complete, Knights of Old vehicles are backloaded with animal feed products from Mole Valley Farmers’ mills and distributed to retail outlets.
The backload operation has been extended to include key suppliers, which allows Knights of Old to collect product and deliver direct into the company’s CDCs. At any one time, up to 25 vehicles operate within the Mole Valley Farmers’ distribution network.
The Knights of Old storage facilities are used by Mole Valley Farmers to store up to 2,500 pallets at peak, comprising largely seasonal items such as crop packaging products. Knights of Old also offers added-value services such as emergency small pallet delivery, additional collections on 24/48 hours notice and rigid vehicles to deliver direct to customers.
