Helping the county’s homeless

NORTHAMPTON’S Hope Centre makes a major difference to people who don’t have reliable, warm, dry and safe accommodation. That’s why the team at Amber Properties has chosen to raise funds for the charity this year.

Managing Director, Ausra Uzukauskaite, is committed to improving the availability of good-quality accommodation in the area at prices that people can afford. She said: “Amber Properties isn’t simply an independent property business; Ellie and I are part of the local community too. We wanted to make a contribution by supporting a local charity that really makes a difference to people’s lives.

“There are so many great causes in the Northamptonshire, but the Hope Centre seemed the obvious choice for us. They provide practical support and training to help people take positive steps and move on from poverty and homelessness.

“It’s amazing what the Hope Centre can provide with even quite small sums of money. Just £25 can provide breakfast for everyone who comes to the centre for a day; £50 will provide breakfast and lunch. With the recent cold weather, a hot meal can make all the difference. Five homeless people in Northampton have already died this year through a combination of the cold, poor health and poor nutrition.”

Louise Danielczuk from the Hope Centre is delighted with the fundraising support. She said: “We are really excited to be working with Amber Properties. Already they have signed themselves up for the half marathon in September and are planning fundraising events to help support people across Northampton and help them rebuild their lives. The support of local business is vital to enable the Hope Centre to continue our work.”

Ausra continued: “The half marathon is a big commitment for us. Our first job will be to make sure we are fit enough to take on the challenge. There will certainly be highs and lows along the way and we’ll be sharing it all on Facebook as we prepare. We will appreciate everyone’s support, so please follow us.”

Figures for people sleeping rough in England increased for the fifth consecutive year in 2017, with the number rising to an estimated 4,750. There are at least 550 homeless people in Northampton, according to the most recent registered statutory figures.
