How to buy your next car… dos and don’ts

By Ross Williams

Alpha Contracts and Leasing Ltd

If you’re looking to change your car, here are a few dos and don’ts

1. Don’t visit a local forecourt full of cars trying to appear as if you have no interest in buying a new car.

2. Don’t make the schoolboy error of asking if they have it in Lilac, thus exposing your lack of motoring knowledge

3. Don’t sit in a stationary car and run your hands around the steering wheel as if it was the first time you had ever seen one

4. Don’t feel like you are flying a jumbo jet when you are on a test drive with a salesman young enough to be your son or daughter

5. Don’t describe the test drive as ‘remarkably smooth’ when you never actually went over 20mph

6. Don’t look at the salesman’s smirking face when you test a tyre by trying to squeezing it

7. Don’t sit too long in the back seat relaxing.

8. Don’t be taken in when the salesman says ‘I’ll have to talk to my boss.’ He’s actually gone for a coffee.

9. Do say that you will have to think about your decision and then never return to the showroom again

but…
