Impressive results all round

WELLINGBOROUGH School has once again produced excellent results at GCSE and A Level.

GCSE Grades 8 and 9 (formerly A*) are now at the highest level for the last five years. Over 34 per cent of the 93 Year 11 pupils gained a Grade 9 in at least one subject and 56 pupils (60 per cent), gained at least one Grade 8 or above, i.e. the old A*.

Headmaster, Andrew Holman, said: “The nerves in the Hall soon dissipated as pupil after pupil opened their results to find a set of grades with which they could be delighted. Our pupils worked extremely hard for their success, whilst also maintaining a busy and important co-curricular programme.

“What are now Lower Sixth students have been well prepared for the rigours of what lies ahead, and they will be joined by newcomers who will be equally keen to demonstrate commitment and passion for their chosen subjects. If things progress according to plan, this cohort will be enjoying their Upper Sixth Study Leave in our new Sixth Form Centre; I look forward to watching the project progress as our students develop through the Sixth Form.”

At A Level, achieving a pass rate of over 98 per cent, along with 68 per cent of grades being awarded Grades A* to B, is a worthy outcome for students. Furthermore, over 60 per cent of the 21 A level students gained at least one A* grade.

The students now look forward to a range of university courses, including Economics, Engineering, Geography, Psychology, Mathematics and Medicine, at destinations across the country.

Mr Holman said: “We are so proud of our Upper Sixth Leavers and all that they have achieved academically. Their own application and dedication, allied with the commitment and skill of their teachers – and not forgetting the support of their parents – has led to outcomes which allow the students to follow their dreams. These young people are ready to take the next step into the world, full of talent and confidence, and we wish them every success.”
