Wellingborough based company, Nimlok Ltd invest heavily in the national apprentice programme and over the past five years the company have nurtured 16 apprentices through the business.

Horizons in partnership with Northamptonshire County Council recently held a series of five Apprenticeship information evenings for parents and students in years 9 -13, the aim being to provide information and to raise awareness of apprenticeship opportunities in the County.

Parents and students were able to listen to short presentations from Horizons, training providers, and Northampton Enterprise Partnership as well as information on apprenticeships from an employer’s perspective.

Nimlok’s Human Resources Manager, Diane Walton gave a short presentation explaining Nimlok’s investment in the apprenticeship programme.  “Having now had 16 apprentices undertake apprenticeships with us, we realise how valuable this opportunity is – both for us as an employer as we get some excellent fresh talent into our business and for the apprentices too who earn whilst they learn and develop their career”.

Two of Nimlok’s apprentices also attended the events to tell of their experiences.  Zoe Stephens who had undertaken a Higher Level Apprenticeship in Business and Administration explained how her training had built her confidence and maturity in a working environment and endorsed apprenticeships by highly recommending the apprentice route.

“It’s the perfect way to inject yourself into the working world” she said.

Jordan Burns, who had achieved his NVQ Level II Business and Administration qualification, told the audience of how he had struggled with the decision of whether to go to University or to find an apprenticeship.  “Now looking back, I couldn’t be happier with my decision” he said“This is mainly down to the skills, knowledge and development I have received during my apprenticeship, not to mention the support I have received from my employers along the way”.
