Looking for the signs of success

THE biggest problem with buying signs and graphics is that there is just too much choice. A quick check of Google reveals far more apparently reputable companies in Northampton than you could possibly need. How on earth do you make an informed choice?

In this situation, there is one strategy that you can fall back on. If you choose the cheapest option, then there is at least some logic in your decision. But is the cheapest necessarily either the best or the right option for you? We all know the answer to that.

So how can you make an astute decision?

In this situation, there is one strategy that you can fall back on. If you choose the cheapest option, then there is at least some logic in your decision. But is the cheapest necessarily either the best or the right option for you? We all know the answer to that.

So how can you make an astute decision? Here are some ideas.

Firstly, sign and graphics businesses are basically marketing services companies. They are there to promote brands. How do they market themselves? If they can’t be bothered to convey what they do themselves, why will they be good at communicating your message?

Secondly, what work have they done before? With vehicle graphics, any supplier should be able to provide hundreds of examples on their website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Flickr feeds.

Commercial vehicle graphics also tend to have phone numbers on them. You can call the numbers on the vans you have seen and ask about the customer experience.

With big exterior signs, it’s even easier. Get in the car and have a look for yourself. Do you like it? Ask to see a sign fitted a few years ago. Does it still look good? Knock on the door. Does the customer still think they made the right decision five years ago?

Look at the premises the company operates out of. Speak to the staff – and not just the enthusiastic owner or salesman. Find out who will be in charge of your job and deal with that person direct.

Finally, ask about health and safety. Not only is it a great barometer of the professionalism of a business, it is also the most important buying consideration. It is unthinkable that that lump of metal ten metres up on your building would fall down.

Answer these questions, and you can buy with much greater confidence.
