Marathon effort for hospice

ANDREA Smith, partner and Head of Business Services at Franklins Solicitors LLP, committed last year to running the London Marathon on behalf of a local charity in an attempt to raise over £10,000.

After months of training, Andrea ran the marathon in aid of Northampton-based Cynthia Spencer Hospice. Despite targeting £10,000 in donations, various events held in the lead up to the marathon helped raise a grand total of £11,223.39; smashing the original target.

The Franklins Marathon Quiz was one of those events. Hosted in March at the Charles Bradlaugh, it saw 15 teams pit their wits against one another, with quiz questions themed around London and marathons across the world.

Thanks must also go to each of the 28 businesses who donated £262 per mile, with two businesses also choosing to sponsor the warm up and warm down. Those were Clarity Legal Services, Mercer and Hole, Index Property Information, Sawford Bullard, Onefoursix, CooperÖstlund Ltd, O’Sullivan Financial Planning, Flerx, Howden, Talented Teams, Ocee Design, CMI Consulting, Comms Group (UK) Ltd, FRP Advisory LLP, MHA MacIntyre Hudson, RSM UK, All Things Business, Law Firm Services Ltd, Lloyds Bank, Hilton Sharp and Clarke, The Pension House, Jackson Grundy Estate Agents, Louch Shacklock LLP, Keens Shay Keens MK LLP, MyEmailAccount, Oak Wealth Planning, Paladon Systems and Modular Distribution Systems.

Cynthia Spencer Hospice, which Franklins chose to support, is a charity the firm has supported for the past few years. The hospice provides specialist palliative care services to patients and families. The costs of running the hospice tops £2.4m each year; in fact, it costs £50,000 to help fund just 50 days of community care, something the monies raised will go a long way to supplement.
