Moulton Reading scheme is a great success

MOULTON College has successfully supported over 100 of its students to complete the Reading Agency Six Book Challenge.  The challenge encourages students to read at least six books and to write reviews of the books in a diary.

“The challenge really motivates students to read,” said Stephen Davies, Principal at the college “and the power of reading can’t be underestimated.  All reading is to be encouraged, whether it is a book, comic, instruction manual or text book.  I’m really proud of our students’ achievements – unbelievably we had one student, Clare Brazer who read more than 50 short st

“The challenge really motivates students to read,” said Stephen Davies, Principal at the college “and the power of reading can’t be underestimated.  All reading is to be encouraged, whether it is a book, comic, instruction manual or text book.  I’m really proud of our students’ achievements – unbelievably we had one student, Clare Brazer who read more than 50 short stories during the challenge which is an incredible achievement”

Stephen Davies presented all the students who completed the challenge with a certificate, goody bag and free book at a presentation ceremony.  Chelsea Eede, a Level 3 Animal Management student went the extra mile and wrote her own short story. Chelsea wrote a thank you letter to the Library staff who supported her and said ‘Thank you so much for helping me with my story…the past year has been so great and I really appreciate the on-going support you are giving me’.

Students, parents and teachers at the presentation ceremony were also treated to a short play that was co-written and performed by Level 1 plumbing students Brandon Lee, Jamie Morris, Daniel Barney and Robbie Bennison.  The play brought to life the benefits of reading for the audience.

Moulton College will achieve a Silver Award for its participation this year but is very much hoping to encourage more students to participate and win the Gold Award next year.  More information can be found on the college’s range of courses on www.moulton.ac.uk and if you are interested in studying at the college please do join us at our Open Day on 31 May between 9am and 2pm.
