GOOD quality materials, and state-of-the-art equipment are vital components in any process, but expertise and experience gained over many years are often what helps set a company apart.

Picture Perfect has been providing framing services in Northampton for 18 years, for all manner of items from simple printed pictures to fine art for galleries, and from family memorabilia to museum pieces.

Founded by Neil Duguid, and now joined by a team of 5 qualified framers, the firm has recently moved from its retail premises on Harborough Road, Kingsthorpe Northampton, to workshops and a showroom in Ryehill Court on the Lodge Farm Industrial Estate. It’s Primrose Gallery, which was part of the Harborough Road outlet, will move to a new home in Thrapston, but retain a presence in the showroom gallery at Ryehill Court.

“When we started, in Primrose Hill in Northampton, we would frame work for local artists, and it would be on show until they came to collect it, so we got a reputation as a gallery known as Primrose Gallery, as well as a framing business,” said Neil. “That has continued, but because we needed to expand, the gallery has taken on a shop in Thrapston and we will be concentrating on framing at Ryehill Court.

The new premises does include a showroom gallery area, with original paintings and limited editions by local artists for sale, as well as examples of frames and mounts, alongside a series of workshops where mounts and frames are made and the frames are assembled and finished.

Investment in equipment has included the largest mount cutter in the Midlands for large-format artwork, while the team of seven can offer the advice and expertise customers require, particularly for fine art and memorabilia.

Neil holds Fine Art Trade Guild qualifications and is now an adviser to the Guild’s international framing committee on all framing issues, and the associated exams and qualifications.

“Standard frames are available anywhere, but when it comes to fine art originals, memorabilia, such as football shirts or medals, or high quality themed pieces for hotels, boardrooms or clubs, our expertise will make all the difference,” said Neil.

“Using the wrong materials or techniques can damage valuable, treasured items, and we’re also able to advise on design so that items can be shown off as best we can, maybe with photographs and a plaque with a medal or sports shirt, for instance. We are also able to undertake restoration of both original paintings, and old photographs.

“Our clients range from individual customers with one-off bespoke requirements to multi-national companies requiring hundreds of similar units at a time, often to match corporate ‘themes’ throughout many sites nationwide and even for export abroad.”
