Pre-season buzz is growing

By Josh Cobb and Adam Rossington

THINGS are really ramping up now ahead of the new season and there’s a definite buzz around the changing room.

The squad have been hard at work throughout the winter under the watchful eye of new coaches John Sadler and Chris Liddle, and Rips, of course. It’s been great to work with them and the fresh ideas they’ve brought to the club, they’ve both come in with an incredible energy that’s really rubbed off on the players. They have been great additions to the club, and we are sure their input throughout the season will really show.

Our pre-season trip to Singapore was incredible, it was a relief to finally get outdoors and train in the warmth ahead of the new season. There is nothing better than getting outside to practise again, as well as having the whole squad back together for the first time since the end of last season.

There are new faces in the playing group too, with quicks Brandon Glover and Jack White both signing for us over the winter. We’ve also recruited incredibly well for the Vitality Blast and can’t wait to make a really strong statement in that competition. With Faheem returning, Ireland’s Paul Stirling, and the most experienced player in T20 cricket, Kieron Pollard, joining us. What an experience with will be for the squad to have someone for Keiron’s calibre in the changing room. It’s the most exciting-looking Steelbacks line-up we can remember.

Last year was such a successful year and now new and exciting challenges lay ahead as we return to Division One of the County Championship. We will look to continue where we left off and get a good start when we get under way for the year, which starts with a trip to Edgbaston to face Warwickshire in the County Championship.

Eighty per cent of our home Vitality Blast games last year were completely sold out. There’s nothing quite like the experience of playing in front of a packed house at The County Ground, the atmosphere is unbelievable. The outfield looks in immaculate condition which is testament to the hard work Craig and his team of ground staff put it. We can’t wait to get going as we look forward to seeing you throughout the summer.
