WHEREAS toys and board games used to top many people’s Christmas lists in recent years, smartphones are now very high up on Christmas wish lists. But which smartphones are likely to be the most popular presents under the tree this year and how does this affect your business?

First up has to be the Apple iPhone 6, likely to be the most popular smartphone this year. The additional screen size and faster processor means more flexibility for website owners.

On the other hand, the Sony Xperia Z3 offers no major changes to previous models, but its two-day battery life is likely to be a draw for some people, so this could well be a dark horse worth watching out for.

The Motorola Moto X 2 is a different beast altogether, being almost completely customisable. This could cause problems for website owners as there might well be fewer concrete standards to meet.

Samsung’s new Galaxy Note IV is likely to be a big hit, too, with the cheap plastic feel replaced by cool metal and a massive 2K resolution which is likely to have a major impact on website design standards for mobile devices.

“If you’re a business owner with a website, you’ll need to take these trends into account,” said Gavin Hills from Northampton based web agency in.house.media. “If you don’t, you could be inadvertently losing business to your competitors. Having your website viewable on a mobile device is one of the primary concerns in the modern age and no business owner can afford to neglect the changes in the industry.”
