Providing expert advice

THE government announced this summer they will be introducing the Apprenticeship Levy in April 2017. The government proposes to apply the levy to large employers in all industries to increase their contribution towards staff training.

Moulton College is on the cutting edge of apprenticeship recruitment, providing expert advice and support to apprentices and businesses.

There has been a significant shift towards encouraging businesses to take on apprentices from the government, and this new scheme aims to enable employers to have more control over purchasing decisions.

The new scheme will introduce an apprenticeship levy that will be collected from all employers with a pay bill in excess of £3m. The levy will be set at 0.5 per cent of the pay bill and there will be a £15,000 allowance. For example, an employer with a pay bill of £5m will need to pay a £10,000 levy.

The levy sum works out as a percentage of your pay bill, e.g. 0.5 per cent x £5,000,000 = £25,000. The apprenticeship allowance will then be £25,000 minus £15,000, meaning you will need to pay a £10,000 levy.

Employers paying the levy will be able to use this payment to fund apprenticeship training. There will be the opportunity for employers to get back more than their individual levy payment if training sufficient apprentices.

Moulton College is well known for offering a range of apprenticeships at Intermediate and Advanced levels, but they have also quickly expanded their Higher Apprenticeship vacancies.

This has helped hundreds of students find success in their chosen career through their apprenticeship scheme, which allows students to gain key skills and knowledge whilst working in the industry.
