So much more than a round of golf

GOLF has long been a vehicle for business and in the past it was often said that the real business was carried out on a golf course.

It still applies today to an extent, but there is much, much more that can be achieved on the golf course than purely sealing a deal.

GOLF has long been a vehicle for business and in the past it was often said that the real business was carried out on a golf course.

It still applies today to an extent, but there is much, much more that can be achieved on the golf course than purely sealing a deal.

One of the leading venues in Northamptonshire for combining business with pleasure is Brampton Heath Golf Centre, which this year celebrated its 21st anniversary.

As well as the superb 18-hole course, companies looking to entertain clients or stage team building days can also include Footgolf, archery, golf lessons and mini golf competitions in their programmes as well as utilising the function suite with state-of-the-art presentation facilities and the superb catering service. There is also a fully-stocked pro shop.

I have been lucky enough to enjoy the Brampton Heath experience on a number of occasions over the past 21 years, both in a corporate capacity as well as a private individual and got the opportunity last month to refresh my memory of the golf facilities with a round on the 6,210 yard, par 72, 18-hole course.

The trees and gorse bushes that were planted back in 1995 have matured to add even more splendour to the beautiful, undulating heathland course which has stunning views over the Northamptonshire countryside.

There is a continuous programme of development at Brampton Heath, and last year to mark the centre’s 20th anniversary, a water feature was added behind the 18th hole – yet another hazard for tiring players to avoid as they come to the end of their round – and in front of the clubhouse.

It is fair to say that my development as a golfer has not kept pace with all the additions to the course and facilities, but as any part-time golfer will confirm, it only takes the odd good shot or two in around to dispel the memories of all the not-so-good ones.

The well-drained course is maintained to a very high standard, the greens are excellent and the real beauty of Brampton Heath is that it provides a challenge for golfers of all abilities and it is open for play every day of the year, except Christmas Day. Snow is the only thing that closes the course.

Many companies have staged corporate days at Brampton Heath over the years with many of them returning to repeat the experience. Corporate packages start from £15 per person and can be tailored to suit individual requirements from small gatherings to larger events of 100-plus people.

The centre is also licensed for civil wedding ceremonies for up to 100 guests in the daytime and 150 in the evening, and this has been a growing arm of the business in recent years – growing from 15 weddings in 2015, 20 this year, and already 25 are planned for next year.

Ample free parking is available.
