Students impress at stadium

MUSICAL theatre students from Northampton College have ticked off the sort of gig most performers can only dream about… playing at Wembley Stadium.

A total of 28 year one and year two students took to the stage at the iconic sporting venue to perform at the National SME business awards, impressing guests at the lavish black tie event with a medley of songs from musicals Chicago and Rent.

Student Samantha O’Neill said: “It’s amazing to have performed at Wembley in just my second year. We have been rehearsing these particular pieces since October between other shows, so we were really confident and we knew our stuff.”

Morgan Charles said: “It was a great experience for us and it’s important to perform in front of different audiences and make new contacts because it’s good practice for working in the industry.”

Lily Cushway said: “It’s impressive to be able to include something about it in our CVs and personal statements for when we are looking to apply for stage school. The buzz when we were performing live and the reaction had from the audience was incredible.”

Tom Kalek said: “It’s always a pleasure to perform in a really good venue. Wembley was always going to be fun and it’s good for our professional growth. I love performing in new atmospheres and experiencing new things, so this opportunity ticked both boxes.”

The students performed Reach for the Gun and Hot Honey Rag from Chicago and Seasons of Love from the musical Rent as they took to the stage in the Bobby Moore Room.
