DIVERSITI UK Learning and Development C.I.C. is a training company with a strong social purpose, providing training in areas such as equality, diversity, cultural awareness, disability awareness and safeguarding for over 200 staff a year. They deliver equality and diversity training nationally for P3, a homeless support charity and also for Richmond Fellowship, a mental health charity.
Garry Connor founded the Community Interest Company (C.I.C.) after taking time out abroad to consider his career options, when he realised that he wanted to take control of his own destiny and work for himself.
Diversiti started working with Northamptonshire Growth Hub and engaged with the Ready2Grow project at the beginning of January this year. Since then the company has not only relocated, but has also grown from one staff member to a team of four.
Business Adviser Mark McGowan said: “It was a very exciting time to be working with Garry, as he was unsure of when, how and if he should move the business forward from a one man band that sub contracted elements of Diversiti’s service, to taking on an aggressive high growth strategy supported by the creation of three new jobs. We needed to put a management accounting framework in place that allowed us to have as much transparency as possible of Diversiti’s future sales growth and costs, so that Garry could identify and plan the best time for the transition of his pool of sub-contractors to Diversiti employees. Garry was very open to support and we have since established a great working relationship.”
Garry said: “We embarked on examining every aspect of the business, looking at the real costs of the business and we now employ staff rather than external consultants, resulting in an increase in profit.”
As well as securing some key strategic contracts in the area, Diversiti has also been shortlisted for the Northamptonshire SME Awards in October this year and the company is looking forward to a very exciting year ahead.
