Take to the open water

WORKMATES across Northamptonshire are being challenged to get afloat and learn the ropes this summer as the national Workplace Sailing Challenge launches in the county for the first time.

The Workplace Challenge is a national Sport England-funded County Sports Partnership Network (CSPN) programme, which aims to engage the UK’s workplaces in sport, physical activity and healthy living, and Northampton Sailing Club at Pitsford Reservoir is giving co-workers from local companies the chance to sign up and get involved on the water.

Gareth Brookes, RYA Midlands Regional Development Officer, said: “Sailing is a great way to switch off and get active outdoors while enjoying the significant physical and social benefits the sport brings. By connecting with companies and employees across Northamptonshire we hope to show how easy and fun it is to get afloat locally after a busy day at work.”

Teams of three colleagues are invited to sign up for a six-week evening RYA Start Sailing course and then put their new skills to the test in the local Workplace Sailing Challenge Regatta, where they will battle it out to be crowned Challenge Champions.

Northampton SC is an RYA Training Centre, meaning it conforms to the highest standards of quality and safety. The Workplace Sailing Challenge gets under way in Northamptonshire in the first week of June and costs just £99 per person, including all kit and equipment, to take part.
