To the rescue

STORM Gareth caused havoc in the UK earlier this year, and one casualty was the front door of the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance (WNAA) base.

The high winds caused the door of the charity’s headquarters on Coventry Airbase to blow in, causing some serious damage to the door.

With the charity in desperate need of a new one, Wellingborough-based T&K Home Improvements rode to the rescue to help.

They were asked if they could help and have gone above and beyond by supplying and fitting a new front door for free, the cost of which would have been £3k.

The company have been raising funds for the WNAA for the last six months and Neal Harper, T&K’s General Manager, said: “When the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance asked us if we could help, we were delighted to come to their aid of course.

“They provide such a vital, life-saving service for the whole community and any help we can give, no matter how small, will go some way to helping them to keep saving lives.”

T&K’s installation team were on hand to supply and fit the new heavy-duty commercial aluminium door, which was provided free of charge by Arkay Aluminium, to help make the base safe and secure once more.

Philippa Gibbs, Critical Care Paramedic and Airbase Manager, said: “We’d like to say a big thank you to T&K for our brand-new front door. The team caused minimal disruption and the new door looks great.”

T&K chose WNAA as it’s chosen charity for the year and has been raising money for the vital service.

All missions are funded by generous donations and the air ambulance does not receive any government funding whatsoever, so they need to raise around £1.7m a year to stay operational.

Over the last six months fundraising events have included asking people to donate their unwanted clothes at the company’s showroom and a 5k inflatable obstacle run which employees took part in and raised £1,775.

“We have had an insight into just how hard these people work and it’s staggering to think that such a vital service is all funded by donations,” added Neal.

T&K has installed to more than 60,000 homes in Northamptonshire and the surrounding counties in 40 years. For more information, telephone 01933 677444, email or visit www.tkhi.co.uk.
