ONGOING investment in training has enabled catering equipment specialists Marren Group grow a business which supports internationally recognised brands across mainland United Kingdom.

This commitment to developing the skills of their employees has attracted a wide range of plaudits – the latest is the Wollaston-based enterprise being named Apprentice Employer of the Year by Nital, who coordinate the company’s apprenticeship scheme.

The training scheme helps bring and develop skills to enable the company to undertake its Specialist work maintaining microwave ovens and accelerated cooking technology equipment.

Managing Director Bob Clifford explained: “The business has focused on this specialist work since it was set up 35 years ago and it is vital that we have properly trained people. This is why the apprenticeship scheme has proved so invaluable to our company.

“We are able to select the right individuals who appreciate the importance of our attention to detail, health and safety and excellent customer service.”

Marren’s other accolades from Nital include apprentice Matthew Bullen winning the title of Outstanding Achievement of the Year in 2013 and Kane Needs being awarded in 2012 Apprentice of the Year.

The company works with other training providers, these include apprentices working towards office administration qualifications including NVQs through organisations likeKey Training and Starting Off Bob said: “We really believe in the value of training and these awards are a welcome endorsement for our commitment.”

Marren based in Eastfield Road, Wollaston, employs more than 50 Service Technicians across the UK, this enables a swift response for their clients who value the specialist team’s ability to deliver exceptional high ‘first time fix’ rates.

The introduction of Smart PDA devices and a real-time Service Management system have allowed Marren to be ahead of the game when it comes to stock allocation and logistics.

This, combined with the ByBox delivery network, means that the company can deliver a part to any of its nationwide Service Technicians in less than 24 hours. Vehicle tracking systems enable the nearest available engineer to be sent out to an urgent job Bob said: “We have been able to become the largest independent service company that specialises in this type of work, just walk down any High Street and you will see so many of our customers who are part of national chains that rely on us to respond quickly if their equipment needs servicing or repairing and resolve any other issues whilst there ”
