Websites need to suit all platforms

WHERE once a website that looked good and did what you and your clients needed it to do was enough, that’s no longer the case, with more and more people using different devices to browse the internet.

PCs and laptops remain the best way to view a traditional website, but today’s websites also have to adapt to work well on everything from a tablet to a smartphone with a screen just a couple of inches wide.

Marc Brigginshaw, CEO and Senior Web Designer at Impakt Media in Kettering, is all too aware of the innovation and imagination that has to go into a website to make it work well across all platforms.

“One of the most important features of the service we offer is to help clients come up with a website that changes and adapts to the device on which it is being viewed,” he said. “Businesses that have had a website for some time, designed purely for use on a computer, are starting to realise that it doesn’t work so well if it’s being viewed on a smaller device.

“We have the capability to ensure that website changes automatically to a user-friendly version regardless of the device on which it’s being viewed. It’s vital to ensure you don’t lose potential customers because your site is difficult to navigate when they’re using their tablet or phone to view it.”

Impakt Media, which was formed in 2003, offers a complete range of services from website design and content management to ecommerce, online marketing and branding and hosting. The team of six includes designers, copywriters and commerce fulfilment specialists.

“Existing websites that have been around for a while and were designed specifically for computers can often be adapted to work well on other devices, so there’s no need to start again from scratch,” said Marc. “At the same time, where a new website or branding is required, we pride ourselves on providing a quality, cost-effective and efficient service from concept to completion and beyond, offering innovative ideas and the benefit of our experience.”
