Where small is beautiful

THEY say good things come in small packages and that’s certainly proved to be correct for a Brackmills firm that celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.

Run today by Keith Dilleigh, Minitek Mouldings was founded in 1968 by Keith’s father Peter along with Albert Gregory and Fred Saunders and has built a reputation for producing quality small thermoplastic components for a range of sectors including electronics, automotive and construction.

Keith heads up a team of four at the Pennard Close factory, which either works with clients to produce the tooling for a part, or uses clients’ pre-prepared tools to simply manufacture to their requirements.

Even with investment in two larger, 70 tonne injection moulding machine, the firm is still limited to components up to 200mm by 200mm or a shot weight of 100g, depending on complexity, but Keith sees no reason why that shouldn’t continue to be the case.

“Our machines are small compared to some, but they do what we need them to do and what we specialise in – small injection moulded components, creating high precision moulds and working with a diverse range of materials.

“Most of our products are never seen – we’ve made parts for the automotive industry that are tucked away doing a vital job but not on show – but we have a good reputation for quality and precision.”

Efficiency combined with accuracy is key to Minitek’s ongoing success and the firm proudly holds the latest ISO9001:2015 standard.

A family company with the traditional values that that implies, Minitek works for customers in Northamptonshire and across the UK as well as further afield in countries including the USA, Germany and Macedonia.

“We like working for local companies,” said Keith. “Just the other day I took an order from someone who’s been a neighbour on the Brackmills Industrial Estate for years and never really known what we did.

“That’s very satisfying and a lot of our business is local, but then we end up with orders from all over the world, usually because they have a link with someone who has worked with us previously and recommended us because they know what we’re capable of.”
