Word is getting round about new pub experience

IT didn’t take long for word to get round about the new and exciting offering that’s now available at one of Northamptonshire’s newest dining venues.

Brasserie 23 at The Kings Head in Spratton has transformed what had long been one of the area’s most traditional pubs.

IT didn’t take long for word to get round about the new and exciting offering that’s now available at one of Northamptonshire’s newest dining venues.

Brasserie 23 at The Kings Head in Spratton has transformed what had long been one of the area’s most traditional pubs. Husband and wife team Danny and Natalie Tompkins gave it a whole new image, retaining the traditional pub bar but also introducing a contemporary brasserie restaurant and a coffee shop which is open from 8.30am Monday to Friday and from 9.30am on Saturdays.

Danny has built an excellent reputation as a chef at some of Northamptonshire’s finest award-winning restaurants and saw his dream of having his own restaurant realised when the couple opened their new venture in June last year.

Within months came a nomination as a finalist for Booker Food Pub of the Year in the Carlsberg Food and Drink Awards and at the time of going to press the couple were awaiting this year’s awards ceremony, having been shortlisted as finalist again this time for the Restaurant of the Year title.

General Manager Natalie Tompkins said: “It was very much a drinker’s pub before and we wanted to give it a fresh, contemporary feel and introduce some classic dishes with our own signature twist.

“Danny uses fresh, local, seasonal produce to create his own dishes, using all the experience he’s gained over the years.

“The initial response was fantastic, with the Food and Drink Awards nomination so soon after we opened, but I think there’s still a lot of people out there who don’t know the pub has changed and what we offer so we really just want to spread the word.”

The Kings Head offers so much, including a shabby chic coffee shop, with its handmade cakes, scones, great selection of teas and coffees along with a full lunch menu and then fresh paninis and soup from 2.30-5pm for those wanting a late lunch.

Another menu not to be missed its fabulous Sunday lunch menu – traditional Sunday lunches with all the trimmings and other options from the a la carte menu available every Sunday from 12-4pm.

The contemporary, warm and welcoming restaurant, complemented by an extensive range of bespoke real ales, icy cool lagers and a varied and individual wine list, the menu will tantalise your taste buds. There are more than 23 excellent reasons to try out Brasserie 23.

All the menus, from the main brasserie menu to children’s options and lunch menus can be found on the website, as well as details of the Kings Head’s Christmas choices.

“We had a great first Christmas last year,” added Natalie. “There was a fantastic warm and merry atmosphere with great parties, food and wine… not to forget the sloe gin. We really hope to repeat this again this year and are already taking bookings – our first booking for this coming Christmas was made last December!”

The Christmas menu is priced at £23 for two courses and £28 for three.
