Retailer moves warehouse operations under new e-fulfilment contract

The White Company is moving its warehouse and distribution operation from Northampton to Rockingham near Corby

Luxury lifestyle retailer The White Company, which has its central warehousing and distribution operations based in Northampton, is moving to a state-of-the-art facility.

A new five-year contract awarded to supply chain partner Wincanton will include the Swan Valley operation’s move to its own e-fulfilment facility at Rockingham, near Corby

The deal will also mean around 175 employees, primarily engaged in fulfilment and warehousing services, transfer from The White Company to join the 20,000-strong Wincanton team.

The contract begins immediately and will see Wincanton provide multi-channel fulfilment services including international e-commerce order fulfilment, store replenishment for more than 60 stores in the UK and Ireland and value-added services for around 1.6 million customers annually.

As part of this move, which will take about 18 months, Wincanton will introduce further customer experience improvements, operational capabilities and support capacity for growth, implementing higher levels of automation to drive efficiency.

Wincanton chief executive James Wroath said: “This contract with The White Company is a big step forward for Wincanton and a significant milestone for our e-fulfilment operations. In due course our state-of-the-art facility in Rockingham will be The White Company’s central logistics hub and we will be helping to deliver continued growth in customer experience, efficiency and productivity for the company through greater use of automation.

“It is testament to the strength, breadth and quality of our services that we have been selected by The White Company who keep the customer at the heart of everything they do to be their partner across all parts of their supply chain, building on our existing relationship as their two-person home delivery provider.”
