Not much good news for motorists

But was there any good news for the company car driver or the private motorist?

Fuel duty increase has been frozen until Spring 2015, which is welcome news for everyone. Local MP, Michael Ellis (Con, Northampton North) has been running a one man pothole campaign and this has resulted in the announcement of a £200m fund for their repair, which only goes to prove that the government does occasionally listen.

Well Done Michael!

Our trade organisation, the BVRLA, describe potholes as the ‘cholesterol clogging up the vital transport arteries of the UK economy.’ I’m not sure about that but they are dangerous and very annoying (except to the tyre companies perhaps).

Other good news for the motorist was hard to find. The Chancellor missed an opportunity to support Ultra Low Emission

Vehicles (hybrids to you and me) when he announced increases in the benefit in kind rates for these vehicles out of step with other vehicles.

A company car driver of these types of vehicles will see their tax rate rise by 13 per cent over the next four years. Something to consider when part of the rationale for taking on one of these expensive cars is to save some tax.

Finally it is good to know that the Reliant Robin motor car has been awarded Classic Car status. Anyone driving one of these cars will no longer have to pay road fund tax (not that I expect Del Boy ever did). At Alpha Contracts while we can’t supply a Robin Reliant we can find and finance any make of modern car or van. For a quotation for your next vehicle, or to discuss the tax implications of your selection, especially a hybrid, then speak to one of our sales team on 01604 756620.
