And the third occupier will be?

A VACANT commercial property in the heart of the popular market town of Higham Ferrers is only now seeking its third occupier in 60 years.

Originally built as a banking hall for National Westminster Bank in 1955, the premises at 5 Wood Street recently fell vacant following the closure of Market Square Veterinary Clinic. It was subsequently purchased by a local businessman who has been undertaking a refurbishment of the accommodation prior to offering it to the market to let.

Samantha Jones, an Associate Director of Prop-Search, said: “The property was developed specifically for the National Westminster Bank having acquired land upon which to construct the property in 1952 from Chamberlain Phipps. The opening ceremony in 1955 was performed by the Lord Mayor of Higham Ferrers, Donald F E Walker – chairman and managing director of Walker & Gunn, a local boots and shoe manufacturer. It remained a bank until 1992 although still boosts the original banking front door.”

The property currently offers ground floor accommodation of 1,178 sq ft with an impressive full height room to the front of the property comprising 704 sq ft. A further 338 sq ft of ancillary accommodation is provided to the first floor.

Samantha Jones added: “A new tenant is now sought for the property which lends itself of a wide variety of uses, subject to planning.”

So who will the third occupier be – a photography studio, dental surgery, estate agency, boutique, coffee shop, design agency, antiques emporium? ?”
