BRIGGS & Forrester Engineering Services, based in Kingsthorpe, have been appointed by VINCI Construction UK to deliver the mechanical, electrical and public health services contract at the HCA Hospital in Birmingham.

This joint venture project between HCA Healthcare UK (HCA UK) and University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) will provide 138 new beds for patients, a new radiotherapy unit and new state-of-the-art operating theatres.

Developed by specialist healthcare property company Prime, the eight-storey 14,000 square metre hospital will comprise of both NHS and private beds, and the five theatres will be owned and run by HCA Healthcare UK. The hospital will be equipped with the latest technology to provide some of the most complex surgical and medical procedures in cancer, cardiology, neurology, hepatobiliary, urology, orthopaedics and stem cell transplantation.

The works to the new specialist hospital include the design, build and commissioning of the full scope of building services together with specialists services associated with a health scheme of this nature which include, full standby generation, medical gases, nurse call, theatre equipment and IPS/UPS systems.

The services incorporate a high level of resilience required to support the ongoing operation of the facility such as N+1 on plant and equipment. The scheme is set to achieve a BREEAM rating of ‘Very Good’.
