Homebuilder to the rescue

BARRATT David Wilson Homes, Northampton has donated £1,000 to local organisation, Lainy’s Rescue as part of its Community Fund scheme.

The donation was made as part of the Homebuilder’s Community Fund scheme which has been designed to strengthen ties with local communities. Barratt David Wilson Homes donates £1,000 to a local charity or organisation each month which improves the quality of life for those living in the area.

In 2015, Lainy’s Rescue was set up by Lainy Gordon Meechan. Being so passionate about animals, she wanted to help in the never-ending struggle of securing rescue placements for animals in need.

Unfortunately, Lainy passed away several years after setting the organisation up, but volunteers decided to keep the foster-based rescue centre running and since then it has gone from strength to strength.

Emma, a volunteer at Lainy’s Rescue, said: “Upon hearing we were to be given £1,000 we were overwhelmed and a little teary as we are a small organisation and are not used to getting donations of this amount.

“The money went straight to our vet bill which was hovering around the £2,000 mark due to some welfare cases that we had taken on including two Staffordshire Bull Terriers with cancer.

“The donation has helped us enormously and has taken a huge weight off of our shoulders.”

Lainy’s Rescue means that any animal that is rescued will go straight into a home environment to be assessed. The organisation helps to rehabilitate and rehome a variety of animals with their main focus being dogs.

Emma added: “I think the Barratt David Wilson Homes Community Fund is an amazing initiative especially as it recognises smaller charities and organisations. We are beyond grateful to Barratt Homes Northampton as the donation has really eased our burdens.”

Andrew Swindell, Managing Director at Barratt Homes Northampton, said: “As a leading homebuilder, we aim to make a difference to the surrounding areas in which we build and it’s important that we offer a helping hand to local charities whenever we can.

“We are thrilled to have helped Lainy’s Rescue, it is a worthy cause that relies on volunteers and support of others in order to progress and help animals in need.”
