New regional headquarters

A HIGH-profile housebuilder has set up a new regional headquarters in Huntingdon as it expands its operations in the east of England.

Bellway has opened its new Eastern Counties divisional office, covering East Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire,Rutland, Lincolnshire and Norfolk, in Percy Road – and the fast-growing construction company was given a stirring welcome to Huntingdon by the town’s mayor Sarah Gifford.

She spoke of her delight at the move as she became the first official visitor to Bellway’s smart new HQ.

Cllr Gifford said: “I’m thrilled to welcome Bellway Eastern Counties to Huntingdon. Bellway is a big success story and I’m very proud that the company has chosen to base its new Eastern Counties division here in our fantastic town.

“Huntingdon’s motto is From Good Things to Better – and this bold move is certainly for the better.”

Cllr Gifford, who was elected mayor last May, said Bellway’s decision to set up home in Huntingdon is a huge plus for the town, which was given its borough charter in King John in 1205 and was the birthplace of Oliver Cromwell.

She said: “We are very proud of our history stretching all the way back to Anglo Saxon times, but we are also very much a forward-looking local community as well.

“Business here is thriving and we are beautifully located sitting just off the busy A14 and being just an hour away from London by train.

“The fact that Bellway has moved here now gives us the perfect start to the new year!”

Bellway Eastern Counties has hit the ground running and is now actively hunting new land to build on throughout Cambridgeshire, east Northamptonshire, Rutland, Lincolnshire and Norfolk.

Ben Smith, the division’s new regional director, said: “We are excited to be launching our new operation in Huntingdon.

“We have put together an excellent team of people and are fully committed to both this wonderful town and the region as a whole.”

The dad-of-two, who started his career in construction in the area, added: “This very positive move will provide us with the ideal base for extending and projecting ourselves throughout the east of England.

“We’re looking forward to seizing this brilliant opportunity, creating jobs and supporting local communities as we go along, with both hands.”

Bellway Eastern Counties is currently building new homes at The Furrows in Warboys and Bower Place in Cottenham, Cambridgeshire. For more information visit bellway.co.uk
