Apprenticeship reform – what you need to know

WITH the apprenticeship reform coming into force in April, there is still time to take on an apprentice before the changes take place.

Apprenticeships can enhance your workforce and introduce a fresh prospective to your business.

* 89 per cent of employers say apprentices make their business more productive

* 75 per cent of employers have used apprenticeships to cut recruitment costs

* 80 per cent say that apprenticeships will play a bigger part in their recruitment plans.

Moulton College has a team of apprenticeship advisors that can help you to explore if an apprentice could enhance your business and guide you through the whole process from recruitment of the correct candidate to understanding and supporting funding and grant applications.?

Currently, Moulton College does not charge any employer contribution for intermediate or advanced apprenticeships regardless of learner age and there is still time to recruit an apprentice under the current rules.

The new scheme coming in will introduce an apprenticeship levy that will be collected from all employers with a pay bill in excess of £3m. The levy will be set at 0.5 per cent of the pay bill and there will be a £15,000 allowance. For example, an employer with a pay bill of £5m will need to pay a £10,000 levy.

Employers paying the levy will be able to use this payment to fund apprenticeship training; there will be the opportunity for employers to get back more than their individual levy payment if training sufficient apprentices.

Moulton College will be holding an Apprenticeship Employer event on 23 February from 5.30pm to 8pm to clear up any questions you may have surrounding the changes and to help you develop your future workforce.

If you are interested in attending, book your place at www.moulton.ac.uk or, alternatively, if you require further information regarding apprenticeships then call 01604 491131 or email
