Brexit ready: the right people for the right jobs

AS we approach yet another Brexit deadline, many employers still have open questions about the expected shape of the labour market, as well as employment law and the immigration policy.

Businesses, therefore, should not delay in positioning themselves to be able to respond with agility as these factors play out over the coming months.

Ensuring your organisation has the necessary skills and labour to continue delivering on business objectives, against both expected and unexpected changes, will be absolutely critical. Workforce planning, specifically in the Brexit context, will be a business imperative that should not be ignored.

Once Brexit terms are confirmed (if ever), it will, of course, make things much more straightforward. However, it’s the black hole before the facts are known that will create most uncertainty and proves to be a challenge for planning ahead. This in turn explains why so many employees are still in a wait-and-see mode, and are yet to put measures in place to prevent labour and skill shortages.

At this stage in the Brexit process Johnson Underwood; specialist recruitment and employment agency would highly recommend ensuring that all workplaces have the right people in the right jobs now and not waiting to see what happens. If you know that there are areas within your business that are lacking or missing a vital skill, use a reputable recruitment agency to find the most suitable candidates to fill that gap.

Get all documentation updated and in place and have those difficult conversations with your workforce so they are as forewarned and as prepared as possible. Make sure you are the company that has done everything in your power to do the right thing where your recruitment and workforce needs are concerned.

Whilst some organisations will remain untroubled with the Brexit outcome, others are already worried and unfortunately, the largest group will not act until matters become clearer which may be too late. Johnson Underwood would suggest taking a proactive approach, especially with regards to the recruitment side of the business in order to have an effective workforce strategy in place.
