Building a legacy is so important

AS employers know, apprenticeships can be a fantastic way of gaining the vital experience you need while also learning the theoretical knowledge needed to succeed. Moulton College prides itself on matching students with employers that can provide the best possible foundation to kick-start their career, but the idea of building a legacy is also important. Over many years Moulton College has seen successful past students come back to recruit new apprentices and help grow their businesses.

A fine example of this is Simon Boardman, who joined Moulton College as a Bench Joinery student in 2001, collecting some outstanding work, vital experience and then achieving his Level 3 NVQ in Bench Joinery after three years of hard work. Fast-forward to 2010 and Simon is now Director of SDRB Joinery LTD, leading a successful and professional company in Ridgeway Farm and is now taking on apprentices from his former College.

In 2013, Simon employed Matthew Clarke, a Level 2 Bench Joiner apprentice at Moulton College, which has enabled Matthew to learn all the skills he needs to succeed while working for a great local company. Matthew has become a valuable addition to the company and is heavily involved in all aspects of the manufacturing process.

The apprenticeship scheme has allowed Simon to work closely with Moulton College to find excellent young tradesmen that will help his company become more successful, while also helping Matthew become a fully trained and qualified worker Bench Joiner at the same time. Through the success of this partnership, SDRB Joinery LTD has continued to grow, taking on their second Bench Joinery apprentice, Oliver Poole from Moulton College.

Moulton College hopes to set a standard for the future, helping businesses to grow at the same time as providing vital opportunities for young tradespeople looking to gain the crucial skills they need to break into the industry.
