Food and drink centre on track

CONSTRUCTION proceeds apace at Moulton College’s Food & Drink Innovation Centre. Since the last update the roof has gone on (with the work inspected regularly by Moulton’s resident drone pilot, learning technologies technician Sam Cullis, who takes frequent aerial shots of the college’s site and activities).

The centre will support ongoing growth in Northamptonshire’s food and drink sector with a range of new diplomas for post-16 students. These include Level 2 and Level 3 diplomas in Professional Bakery, Level 3 diplomas in Food, Nutrition & Health and Food, Technology & Management, and Level 4 qualifications in Food Technology.

Moulton already offers apprenticeships in a number of areas – including construction, land management and agriculture – and is now expanding into food and drink apprenticeships as well.

To this end, it has appointed Employer Engagement Development Manager Fiona Hodkin, who brings to the college years of practical experience gained in the food and drink industry and education sectors. Fiona is now working with local employers who pay the apprenticeship levy to help them allocate their funds effectively and build their talent for the future.

“This is a very exciting time for the college as well as for our many local food and drink manufacturers,” said Fiona, who has previously worked at national level for Whitbread, Golden Wonder and Britvic Soft Drinks.

The food and drink, housing and town planning sectors, she explains, are all areas of growing demand for apprenticeships. “We can help employers in these – as well as in more traditional areas such as construction – grow and retain their staff through ongoing professional development and skills advancement,” she said.

“So if you are a levy payer in any business sector and would like some more support around allocating your levy funds, or want more information about any of our apprenticeship provision, please don’t hesitate to contact me.”

Moulton is holding a recruitment event on 7 March, introducing employers to potential apprentices and students to employers. Get in touch using the contact details below to book your place.
