Data protection explained

COME the end of May this year, all companies, charities, businesses and organisations will be required to comply with the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

From how you will be allowed to collect data to ways in which you’ll be able to store it securely, the amendments seem, at first sight, quite daunting – but don’t worry, The Mallows Company is here to help.

GDPR is the result of four years’ work by the EU to bring data protection legislation into line with the modern ways that data is now used. It will, for example, introduce tougher fines for non-compliance and breaches, and give people more say over what companies can do with their data. It also means that data protection rules will be (more or less) identical throughout the EU.

The Mallows Company’s IT and Business expert, Gayle Parker, is leading a half-day workshop on the new regulations in a positive, friendly and easy-to-understand session to help ensure that you and your business are ready for the changes. It will also give you the chance to understand, as an individual, how data about you is stored by others and what your personal rights are.

The session will provide you with the tools you need to:

1. Help you understand the new rules and how they will impact your business.

2. Help you to understand what data your business holds that will need to comply with the new rules

3. Practical advice on what you need to do in order to get your business ready.

Currently less than half of businesses are doing anything practical to prepare for the impact that GDPR will have on their company – so it’s important that you are not one of those who are left behind.

The workshop is taking place on Wednesday 7 February, from 9.30am to 1pm at a cost of just £150+VAT per person.
