IT’S 35 years this year since HARTING opened its UK operation in Kent, and 25 since it relocated to its current home on the Brackmills Industrial Estate. A celebration will be held this month to mark the hard work and dedication of the HARTING UK team. Out of a workforce globally of nearly 4,000, the firm has 100 staff at its Caswell Road facility, responsible for the sales and market development of HARTING interconnectivity and added value services throughout the UK and Ireland. Loyalty is key to the success of the UK operation with the current workforce numbering some 917 years’ service between them, including the very first employee; Trevor Walters, who joined the company when it opened in 1980. In addition, the company plays its part in the local community, with staff members regularly taking part in charity events. Most recently, this has seen a Northampton Lift Tower abseil, raising over £3,200 for the British Red Cross, and a team participating in the Northampton Race for Life, raising over £1,500 for Cancer Research UK. As a global leader in the connector industry, HARTING Group develops, manufactures and distributes electrical and electronic connectors, network components, pre-assembled system cables, and backplane assemblies. Its products are capable of withstanding the harshest demands in industrial environments and provide high data rates for electronic applications. HARTING connectors and network components are used in mechanical engineering and plant manufacturing, in automation systems, energy generation and distribution, and in electronic and telecommunication markets. Industrial connectors are also vital in rail rolling stock and infrastructure. HARTING also offers ethernet network components and cable systems for both indoor and outdoor networking applications involving power and data. The Northampton on site production facilities and capabilities include active component and PCB testing, surface mount assembly, wave solder reflow, press fit and fibre optic assembly, cable assembly, testing and crimping. The company is investing in resources to help develop future growth in the business. Evolving its approach to the market to ensure products and services are at the forefront of current and future customers’ minds. Future developments of the site include the introduction of electric car charging points for staff and visitors, and the introduction of HARTING Smart Power Networks within the production and warehouse facilities, making the site more cost and energy efficient. Peter Hannon, Managing Director said: “It is right to recognise and celebrate our achievements over the last 35 years. However, the emphasis and energy of the company is very much looking to the future and how we will grow the business to the mutual benefit of our customers and family shareholders. We have exciting plans to invest in resources and capabilities to drive this growth forward.” Contact Harting on 01604 827500 or visit the website www.harting.co.uk
