Effective appraisals

By Rachel Mallows

The Mallows Company

AN effective appraisal process aids management making decisions associated with promotion, discipline and salary administration. Designing a performance appraisal programme and training staff on how to deliver an appraisal effectively reduced costly mistakes, increases productivity and motives employees to achieve goals in line with the businesses objectives.

There are number of elements that need to be taking into careful consideration throughout the appraisal process:

* Measurement – assessing performance against agreed targets and objectives (as well as behaviours and attitudes)

* Feedback – providing information to individuals about their performance and progress and on what is required to perform well in the future

* Positive reinforcement – talking about what has gone well and offering constructive criticism about what might be improved

* Open exchange of views – what has happened, how it can be improved and support needed from managers

* Agreement – about what can be done to improve and future objectives

Our performance appraisal training covers what to say when conducting a performance review. Through role-playing exercises, managers learn to use clear communication that conveys any goals that need adjustment to changing strategic objectives. Managers learn to reinforce the need for improving skills to enable high performance. Managers also learn to encourage and reward employee strengths.

We are running Effective Appraisals and Delegating Successfully course on 8 August 2017 in the Northamptonshire area at just £200 per delegate! To book a place or for more information contact Sabina Davies on 01933 664437 or email
