YOUNG apprentices keen to pursue a career in transport and logistics are being given a helping hand by the Fortec Distribution Network.
Fortec, based at Watford Gap, currently has three apprentices in place – Alex Carmichael, Harry Laveric and Laura Brown.
Laura, who joined the company in February 2016, is working towards her latest qualification, NVQ Level 3 in Customer Service, after completing NVQ Level 2 in Business Administration over a year ago.
In her role as Member Support Advisor, Laura is a valued part of the team which handles inbound queries from the 84-strong network of members nationwide.
Harry recently joined the team at Fortec in his role as Marketing Assistant. He joined the company straight from college and is currently studying for an NVQ Level 3 in Digital Marketing.
He is already handling a wide range of marketing activities such as the development of newsletters, websites and other marketing collateral.
Alex began his apprenticeship with Fortec in October 2017 and is working towards an NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration. In his role as Compliance Assistant he provides admin support for the Health, Safety and Security team which is responsible for a wide range of activities including training, auditing and dangerous goods compliance.

Young people inevitably bring fresh ideas and it is important to utilise these whilst at the same time ensuring that skills, knowledge and experience is passed down to secure its long-term future.
“For many young people, transport and logistics is a first choice of career, so it’s important that we help encourage them to find out for themselves how interesting and diverse the roles can be.
“Our apprenticeships are about growing our own talent and by providing them with a good foundation we hope we can help them shape an exciting and prosperous career.”
The apprenticeship scheme in Fortec is already showing signs of success and the company is now looking at ways it can further attract the younger generation into opportunities within the wider business.
