Sensory room dream needs your help

Plans have been drawn up by charity Service Six for an innovative project to support young people.

The charity, which has been running for more than 42 years, wants to create a designated sensory room at its Wellingborough head office but needs to raise £3,000 to fund the project.

The room will be another asset for the charity which in 2021 provided 1,828 children and young people with one-to-one support and counselling helping them cope with a range of issues including self-harming, anxiety, low mood, anger, suicidal thoughts and low self-esteem.

The sensory room will allow people with autism to experience a safe therapeutic environment with a calm, relaxing, comfortable atmosphere. The charity says it will help them to be better prepared and confident to interact with a therapist.

The charity helps them in a wide range of areas including developing personalised coping strategies, gaining socialising skills to better participate in society, improve focus, cognitive and sensory development.
