College gives mature students a chance to shine

A “GRADUATION’ ceremony saw 48 mature students rewarded for completing professional development courses at Northampton College.

The students, who studied subjects such as HR management and leadership, were honoured at the ceremony at the College’s Booth Lane campus.

Elspeth Woods, head of the College’s professional management programmes, said: “It was a special night celebrating some very special people. For many, the last time they were in a classroom was when they left school 30 years ago so we thought it was right to give them the chance to have their very own graduation.

“It was an opportunity for them to toast their success with friends and family. They all worked extremely hard to get their qualifications and it was only right that they received the appropriate recognition for that hard work.”

The students were from a broad range of employment backgrounds, including entrepreneurs, local authority staff and the NHS as well as HR professionals and managers from private companies such as Kier Construction, Edward Green Shoemakers and Red Arch Engineering.

Three students were also given special awards on the night, including Samira Aparaschivei, who was recognised for typing out a 2,500 assignment on her mobile phone after her laptop crashed the night before a deadline.

Lauren Faulkner was also honoured for successfully completing two separate courses simultaneously while Jacqueline Henry was presented with a special award for showing incredible levels of perseverance and tenacity throughout her course.

Northampton College offers a range of programmes in Management, Leadership, Coaching and HR. These are accredited by professional bodies such as CIPD and ILM. Programmes are flexible and are usually taught part time in the day, evening or at weekends.
